Big Island Travel Guide 2023 let’s go [Music] We’re here on the big island at the Maunalani resort and we figured what Better place and better time to do our Big island 2023 travel guide video we’re Gonna give you nine tips to help make Your vacation Landing easy breezy smooth Pretty great I’m Jordan I’m Erica and This is the live vacation guide [Music] Thank you [Music] All right so tip number one is choosing Where on the island to stay so we have a Full video for you that you can check Out that breaks down all the different Areas of the island we also have a weird Stay directory the boyvacationguide.com Stay but here are some tips on picking Where to stay when you are visiting the Big island so since you’re here right Now we got geography for you so we got The leeward and windward side of the Island leeward side is Kailua Kona and The Kohala Coast they are dry Sunny warm Beautiful weather and that’s where you Find most of these Resorts over here the Kohala Coast is full of luxury hotels Kailua Kona also has hotels vacation Rentals around the Kailua Kona area over On the leeward side of the island you Have Hilo which you’ll find a lot of two Three-star hotels over there and some
Vacation rentals and Inns yeah and now Details on hotels okay so down in Kailua Kona you have a lot of activities There’s a lot of things to do down there And there are some places to stay so There are vacation rentals and there are Some hotels like Marriott and the Outrigger Kona when you get up to the Kohala Coast you get the bigger Resorts That’s where we are right now we’re at The monolani it’s a very big Resort but You also have the Hilton Waikoloa Vermont Orchid yeah there’s a lot Yeah there’s a lot of resorts up here Over in Hilo you have less to choose From when it comes to hotels we just got Back from Santa the grand naniloa which Is a Hilton property A Doubletree Property that’s only six minutes from Downtown Hilo Banyan Drive where the Hotel is located has a few hotels on There they also have vacation rentals And ends in that area it’s a great Launching pad to get to Volcanoes National Park so there are places to Stay in Hilo it’s just a just a popular Place to stay and so there are less Options there you go Tip number two we say this in all of our Videos there’s a big emphasis this year And go on the Futures learn the culture Hawaii is such an interesting unique Place do the Hawaiian culture and also All the cultures who came here migrated
The islands so get out there check out Some of these National Historical parks And the big island has the most National Historical Parks from a hay out to a Place of Refuge I mean it’s a great way To take the family hour even maybe you Just got married and you want to go to National Park yeah you never know it’s a Lot of fun though honestly Escape those Luau’s try something unique and Make sure you are staying on the beaten Path so there are a lot of no Trespassing signs or signs that say do Not go beyond this point and those times They’re there for a reason they’re They’re there to keep you safe they’re There to keep you from going on private Property and they’re there to help keep The land safe so There are experiences that you can have That make you feel like you’re off the Beaten path so I’m here at a private Waterfall more information in the Description below but it’s a beautiful Private property I’m allowed to be here I bought a day pass and it’s a great way To feel kind of away from everything get To enjoy this beautiful place while not Trespassing and not putting myself or Anyone else in danger there are also Some really awesome tours that take you Off the beaten path in a legal way so we Have lots of links in the description Below to some of our favorite we did a
Really cool waterfall hike which I Highly recommend it was a great day it Was a really nice way to kind of get a New experience here tip number three Know the popular times to visit here on The big island the crowds do come to This island even though it’s such a big Island with a small population there’s Gonna be times when the resorts feel Busy Christmas is a really popular time To come to the big island people have Figured it out that this is a relaxing Place to come with the family also Summer is always a busy month in the Hawaiian Islands you’ll see a lot of People coming so when those popular Times come supply and demand prices will Go up for hotels and for rental cars Also so just be prepared for that Welcome to Hilo all right tip number Four people always ask us should I get a Rental car and while you don’t have to If you just want to hang out at the Resort we think getting a rental car Will greatly enhance your experience Here The big island is so big and there are So many super awesome things to see that Having a rental car means that you can Actually get out and explore and see Wonderful things like beautiful Hapuna Beach or stunning crazy tall akaka Falls There you go or our favorite black sand Beach bunalu black sand beach there’s

Beaches and you don’t get a lot of Runoff so you get Crystal Clear Visibility Where the Captain Cook Monument is is Amazing snorkeling go out there with Captain zodiac or numerous other tours We have a video up above our favorite Snorkeling spots and check out our Website for our favorite tours Activities if you’re gonna do an Activity I recommend doing a circle tour I think it’s a great way to go out there Keep those reefs safe with a snorkeling Tour they know where to go they know the Best spots to see the marine life and Keep it safe all right we are at Monarch Coffee getting a tour and you gotta see It this place is stunning tip number six Speaking of Tours it’s hard to pick a Tour but there are so many cool tours That you can go out and experience we’ve Tried to write a lot of them up on our Website to help you figure out what tour You want to do if you want to do one or Two you know we have some great options For you so they have so much here you Can go out where you’re canoeing you can Do a circle Island Tour you can hike to A private waterfall that’s another Favorite ones I like that all right Manta ray Knight sarcas our absolute Favorite going out to Volcanoes National Park and do it yourself or take a guided Tour with you it’s great we did the
Kohala waterfall swim they took you to a Private waterfall for snorkeling hiking No offense on you name some good ones I Did but our favorite ones just got Holding back I was and if you don’t want To do a big long guided tour barn tours Those are awesome you can go to Big Island bees you can go tour a vanilla Farm you can do a salt Farm there’s a Lot of interesting course let’s not Forget Kona coffee country you’re going To go up to Kona coffee country there’s A lot of great old coffee Farms that you Can go visit you tastings we love them We share our favorite ones in our Itineraries delightful I really like Coffee Good morning 8 30 right now driving North into Kailua Kona coming down from Coffee country and it’s rush hour Traffic Tip number seven is avoid rush hour Watch out for that traffic especially Around the Kailua Kona area population Has gone up quite a bit on the island And with that it’s come a lot of traffic So you’re on vacation avoid rush hour if You have a tour you’re going to hit up Make sure you leave early or you check The time for it so make sure you do that Another one too is the airport I just Got a nice warning from Hawaiian Airlines so this Summer’s expecting long Lines at the Kona Airport so they
Recommend you arriving three hours early For your flight because those TSA lines So plan ahead for that number eight Don’t forget Volcanoes National Park it Is an amazing National Park to go visit You can go to Thurston Lava Tubes you Can walk around the crater it is Absolutely amazing you have Kilauea There and Mauna Loa both of them have Recently erupted Kilauea has just Stopped erupting it might be erupting Right now ever since about 2021 Kilauea Has been erupting so check the USGS Website below to check the status of it It’s been pretty cool it’s been erupting Inside the lava lake it’s been blowing We went there with Henry on a day trip From hello Moana last year oh it’s such A great experience so check out Volcanoes National Park if you don’t Want to do it yourself we have Recommended guided tours down below That’ll take you there will drive you From West Hawaii and take you and show You the whole National Park Tip number nine the last tip for you the 2023 finale there we go is make sure you Book early so we say this over and over Again to our newsletter subscribers by The way you should be on our newsletter Bi-weekly it’s awesome and free he Writes it but you want to make sure You’re booking things early so we always Say when you book your flight book your
