Welcome we are on the big island and we Are doing a lot of farm tours farm tours Are one of our favorite things to do to Support the local farms and businesses And give our kids something fun to do so Plus we get off the beaten bath yeah hi I’m Jordan and I’m Erica we got Henry And we got Edie and welcome to the Hawaii vacation guide [Music] Where the kanaloa octopus farm right now Even though they call this a farm it’s a Research facility so we learn all about Octopi it’s gonna be really cool Octopuses octopuses octopi we don’t know That’s one of our first questions we got To ask yeah now we gotta go wash our Hands because we’re gonna touch some Octopi Pretty cool buddy Oh my gosh Whoa whoa whoa oh it’s trying to grow Your mommy Hello foreign [Music] Strip under the microscope for Henry Right now but we can see under here cool You can see their eggs in there they Haven’t touched yet You see anything No no Super yummy blue crab today in the Lots They like to eat a lot of slow-moving Crustaceans and shellfish all right Bud

Let’s go feed an octopus we got stretch To feed Dude you got it you got it you got it Oh Better on us whoa who’s going for Mommy Now Oh good job good job guys good job you Two you still have your hand you still Have your hand Henry show me your hand He still has it he still has it [Music] Is That cool yeah that was pretty cool who Do you want to go back to you All right the octopus Farm was a lot of Fun but the next one is also at the Kona Airport right across the street so these Two tours are perfect if you’re waiting To catch a flight like if you have a Later afternoon flight hit up these farm Tours you excited for this farm tour Maybe Nope you would never guess this farm Tour on the big island it’s a vanillary They grow vanilla here and since we live On Maui we know how expensive vanilla is So maybe we’ll fill our pockets full of Vanilla while we’re here we’ll see what Happens on this farm tour I’ve never Known there’s a vanilla farm tour but This place has come very highly Recommended to us we’re starting the Tour of the vanilla we start at the baby Plants and then seeing it all the way

Through the production cycle and she Said it’s four to five years to go from Growing the vanilla beans to bottling it So it takes a long time to get that Flavor that rich flavor there’s a lot of Steps along the way I love learning About this stuff I see them they look Like green beans but these are vanilla They’re not green beans that I strapped On there those are vanilla beans okay It’s two-year-old vanilla bean it’s Blooming right now that’s what that is Right there and it usually takes three To four years to bloom but it’s bloom in Early here in Hawaii this Farm is the Largest vanilla bean Farm in the United States fun fact the originated in Mexico And this is part of the Orchid family so Like orca because they’re really hard to Grow A lot of work don’t want to do it some Vanilla facts for you Flowers bloom in March you pick the Vanilla bean in December so that’s eight To nine months that it takes to grow in A living vanilla is kind of finicky Right you can only pollinate it between 6 and 10 in the morning it has to be Hand pollinated When the flower opens up during certain Time that’s how they do it they do a Little piece of bamboo get it in there Anyway it’s a lot of work I’m really Impressed with all the work that goes

Into growing vanilla and in this Greenhouse it smells like vanilla smells Amazing it’s great now let me show you Where they dry it And then we get some vanilla ice cream So the curing process This is very Varied first of all second of all it’s Like a stronger vanilla flavor than I’m Used to Learning all about vanilla how does that Vanilla taste Good Our favorite souvenirs to bring back for People are consumables and we love the Love because who doesn’t love like Vanilla from the big island or honey and Number two is it supports these local Farms and so it’s a really good way to Buy souvenirs bring them back for people And Shop with purpose Okay on the next farm tour All right we are at Monarch coffee Getting a tour and you gotta see it this Place is stunning We’re at Monarch Farms right now feels Like rainforest because it’s raining on Us but it’s so Lush and green here and Everything’s In Bloom the red Ginger’s In Bloom the coffee trees are in bloom It’s beautiful right here smells nice Yeah that’s cool come on in [Music] Foreign

[Music] Tours is it gets you off the beaten path Where you shouldn’t usually as a Tourists like get off the beam pass the Farm tour is a good way to get off the Beaten path Jordan how you feeling there it’s good We call this cone of snow all the white Flowers to slap in your face oh that Looks delicious Oh that smells nice so coffee likes to Be at like 65 75 degrees 65 humidity So this is all a wash coffee so that’s The traditional style and in each bag Each bag has a card that references the Day it was picked the crew that picked It and then how long of the process was Before the drying took place Wow wow that No Those are that’s the dried coffee Flowers yeah they’re gonna make tea out Of it wow and it is going to be very Caffeinated time for a tasting thanks a Lot But like so it’s interpretive and we’re Brewing coffee based on like what you Like like what are your taste Preferences and profiles that you like And and so you’re getting to taste Something that you like not just Something that’s been sitting in a pot For five hours I know this is a fancy Tour no don’t say it’s fancy it’s an

Elevated experience you know what it’s An experience and that’s how I feel like It should be it’s an experience this is A whole fruit gasha this is a colita Pour over to me this is like the best Brewing method for this particular Coffee So Aromas are what the coffee smells Like wet and a fragrance is what coffee Smells like dry All right so the best way to taste this Is to do like a side-by-side tasting so Slurp it like uh aerate it in your mouth Like a wine nope serpent you want like Almost like it’s aspirating Can you taste the difference yeah so Side by side the one on your left is a Whole fruit gasha the one on your right Is a washed gacha uh the whole fruit is Did he show you where the the entire Fruit is left on this it is it is Fruitier right so you’ll have more it’ll Be fruitier it’ll have more of a Fermented whining taste to it so it like Tastes a little bit like red wine or a Familiar it’s like drinking yeah right Yeah I was waiting for you guys spot her Out I spotted her 10 seconds into Grabbing the frame I See if they protect her hold on Come here Come here you flip over give me your Wings I don’t know if they’re doing good job

Protecting her are they Oh No they just could care less about a Queen right she’s an egg-laying machine She’s not guarded or protected she lives In a home with thousands of stinging Insects do you think she needs her Handheld oh I think she’s fine all right Guys here we are Big Island bees and so We just did a farm tour and this is such A cool spot so this is located south of Kona in Captain Cook so we are up in the Hills we are away from the water but we Can see it it’s a beautiful view here at Big Island bees they have 2500 beehives So this is a working bee farm and the Tour is family friendly we have Little Edie here she slept through the tour we Have Henry over there who really enjoyed It so the tour starts with a video and That’s an introduction and an overview So you get to understand the beekeeping Process then there is 45 minutes you get To spend 45 minutes looking at the Beehives so during that you get all of Your questions answered and all these Facts very cool interesting details About how they make their honey and what Their process looks like and then you Can head back into the museum back there And they do honey tasting so this is a Really cool tour that you can do it’s a Really fun tour if you want to do a farm Tour that’s not a coffee tour this is a
